WW2 US HOMEFRONT OFFICE CIVIL DEFENSE (OCD) HELMET, MINIMAL USE, VERY CLEAN. Leather frontal portion of sweatband, which is retained by four snaps, and frequently missing, is present. The left chinstrap bale is unfortunately missing, but the chinstrap can be looped around the sweatband to compensate for this defect in a functional manner. The snap end of strap can be unfastened and withdrawn through the adjusting buckle, then re-threaded after looping around sweatband. This may be the reason that the helmet shows such minimal use; the adjustable sweatband was never laced into place. No evidence that it ever had insignia. Few very minor scratches and/or scuffs to frontal center top of helmet, rear of helmet, and left rear quarter, as shown in photos. To my knowledge, these helmets were only made in one size, and the fabric sweatband & suspension could be adjusted to fit any size.
