The liner remains in the helmet and the item has in no way lost its appeal!
NOTE: I received a note that this is believed to be an Austro-Hungarian helmet with an Afghan liner.
I did acquire this helmet in Afghanistan and knew it was surplus contributed to Afghanistan. Please use this info as you will.

And this is also not actually the original liner, this I believe is either a transitional German or Afghan liner.
