This Vintage 70s 80s US Army USGI M1 Steel Combat Helmet, Liner, Chinstrap and Cover is in good condition overall but shows expected signs of age, service and storage. The helmet shell is heat stamp marked "8722" appearing to denote production by the Parish Division of the Dana Corporation between October 1968 and August 1969. The helmet shell appears to have been re-painetd at some point in it's service life and the current exterior finish is strong. Of note, there are three very fine stress fracture cracks that can be noted on the backside helmet, neither appears to be worsening and they are only noticeable upon very close inspection. This is a typical problem for M1 helmets and these cracks do not detract from display in any way. Both chin strap swivels are firmly attached and show no signs of abuse or neglect. The chinstrap appears to be 80s era production and is in good, functional condition. The late production 80s helmet liner is complete with late 70s sweatband, the liner is ink contract stamped but the stamp has faded over time. There are several areas with black marker ink present on the interior and a large white star has been attached to the front of the liner's exterior. The exterior OD Green finish shows wear from age and what appears to be honest service as no signs of abuse or neglect are present. The ERDL Pattern Camouflage Helmet Cover is in fair condition and does show fading and wear from service. Only a small trace of the original ink contract stamp can be seen and production most likely took place sometime in the mid-to-late 70s. The elastic helmet band is in good condition, is named (NAGLES) and has the glowing "Cat Eye" tabs associated with 80s production. Please examine the photographs carefully for the best description of condition.
