Collectibles / Militaria / WW II (1939-45) / Original Period Items / Germany / Hats & Helmets
This is a somewhat rare find. In Bavaria shortly after the end of WW2, the US occupation force ordered that the helmets of firefighters - who were wearing old German combat helmets - had to be painted in red. These red helmets were only worn in Bavaria, in Prague for example, the helmets were painted black. This helmet policy (in Bavaria) continued all the way until 1964 when new helmets were brought in. War enthusiasts used to remove the red paint on these to return it to its former glories, however, so rare are the red helmets now, that they've become a unique piece in their own right. This helmet is a true piece of World War Two memorabilia that would grace any collection or man cave wonderfully. It measures 6" height x 9 1/4" width x 11 1/4" depth. It weighs 2lb 2oz. CONDITION PLEASE READ: This helmet shows definite signs of age and wear as all great vintage items do. Examine all the pictures closely. The red paint is worn in parts, and one can see the original grey-green paint underneath. It no longer has its inner lining / strap.
