A Rare And Unusual Early 17th Century Siege Weight Continental Burgonet/Morion Circa 1600.
The low roped comb skull of one piece construction, the interior rough from the armourer’s hammer. The external surface smooth showing de-lamination and exfoliation. The roped comb with period copper braised repairs. Well forged pierced earflaps with roped and rolled edges, Interior with remains of ancient leather lining. Strongly peaked fore and aft brims with period repairs. Engraved plume holder possibly the original.
10 and 1/2 inches high and 18 inches long. Weight is 5.15 pounds. This is a genuinely charming absolutely genuine early helmet of high quality with the period repairs that serve as the very best guarantee of authenticity. The unusual configuration of the helmet adds to its desirability.
