The Corinthian Hoplite helmet type is one of the most recognizable types of helmet in human history, often associated with the heroes of Ancient Greece, even by the Ancient Greeks themselves who rapidly moved to helmet types with better visibility, but still depicted their heroes in these helmets. It was a helmet made of bronze and sometimes including a (most likely horsehair) crest on its top. Originals of these helmets can be seen in museums across the world, but the prototypes are in the Olympia Museum in Greece Hoplites were the most common type of heavily armed foot-soldier in ancient Greece from the 7th to 4th centuries BCE, and most ordinary citizens of Greek city-states (with sufficient means to do so) were expected to equip and make themselves ready for battle when necessary. Hoplites were instrumental in Greek warfare and the victories of Greek armies over Persia at the battle of Marathon (490 BCE) and the battle of Plataea (479 BCE) during the Greco-Persian Wars. This item was handmade in Greece using the traditional 'lost wax' method. Patination and colouring have also been added. This piece makes a beautiful display item and is able to stand upright without the addition of external support. It is also pre-owned. There is a slight scuff on the right side of the helmet (as pictured). Also the connection point between the helmet and the crest is fairly small, so be careful no to bend it. I will make sure it is packaged safely and carefully to prevent this from happening during shipping.
