Golden Knight Helmet 18 Gauge Steel - Brass Trim Product description The Knights Close Helm became popular in the 1500's in Europe as it featured full head and neck protection, and also had an integrated Gorget armor plate for right below the neck. If you were a warrior looking for total armor immersion, a Close Helm was the best thing you could get for your head and neck. It features two separate hinges, one hinge was used to split the helm in half so that it can be fitted to the knight, the other hinge allowed a knight to open up a flap so that he or she can expose or reveal their face. Close helms were already highly prized and expensive in the middle ages, but a closed helm of this detail and level of protection was reserved for the highest order of persons. Knights born of Noble descent wore Close Helms with unique cutout designs and brass linings. Extra layers of steel and brass could be riveted on to provide extra protection to a Very Important Person. Each helmet is hand forged and made one at a time by a blacksmith. You may notice slight variation in the work but each unit is the same in design and craft.
